1. There are many things that I have found interesting in comparing the cultures of Middle Tennessee/Northern Alabama and Southern California. One such comparison is the attitudes of drivers. While in the South, waitresses call you "honey," people in line at Walmart chat with you about your haircut and admire your child's dress, and a first meeting of someone includes a description of your lineage to determine how/whether you might be related, there is one thing that Southerners are cutthroat about....driving. In Southern California, we're all in the same headache of constant traffic, and we help each other out. Need to merge? Someone will let you in. Always. In Nashville, Birmingham, or in the middle of nowhere, Tennessee? Forget it, buddy. You should have known your lane was ending three miles back.
2. Christmas is THIS week. As in, four days from today. I am not finished shopping. I have wrapped almost nothing. I have stocking stuffers to purchase. We have yet to make a single cookie or batch of candy. And nothing is prepared for any of the dinners. Hail Mary, full of grace...
3. Rebecca's infatuation with Baby Jesus has led to us bringing a ceramic likeness of the holy babe to some strange places. Like to see Santa Claus. And to eat pizza. Baby Jesus hangs out with Zhu Zhu Pets and Webkinz. In the car, Rebecca took a cell phone call from Mary and Joseph in which they gave her "the bad news about that mean king Herod who wants to hurt the Baby Jesus."
4. We give a big thumbs up to two of Huntsville (Alabama)'s holiday attractions: Santa's Village and the Galaxy of Lights. Good times were had by all. There are just a couple more nights for Santa's Village, but the Galaxy of Lights goes on until the new year.
5. If you want to hear a heartwarming story about a miraculous woman and her wonderful family, check out CNN this week. It's airing today at 8:50 a.m. Eastern/Pacific and 7:50 Central on American Morning, and then the following other times will show repeats:
On CNN: Tuesday: 8a – 9a Friday: 11a -12p, 3p – 4p; Saturday: 7:30a – 8a,
5-6p; Sunday: 7:30a – 8a
HLN: Tuesday: 10:30a – 11a, 1p -1:30p; Friday: 10:30a – 11a, 1p -1:30p;
4:30p – 5p; Saturday & Sunday: 7a – 7:30a, 10a-10:30a
*All these times are Eastern which is the same as Pacific. Central will be an hour earlier for everything.
6. Rebecca and I got haircuts yesterday. Hurray!
7. This past weekend, I thought I found my first gray hair. It was LONG! I plucked it out and was then horrified to spy another one. I plucked it out too (don't worry, I have massive amounts of hair). Then I realized that the root end was dark brown and it was the free end that was white. Fortunately, it was a false alarm. Apparently I got distracted after applying hair gel. Whew! That was a close one!
8. I never get tired of watching Miracle on 34th Street. Only the black and white Maureen O'Hara version, please. I have watched it three times this week. Last night, I was exhausted and still forced myself to watch it.
9. One of my favorite Christmas shows is the Walton's Christmas special. They never show it on ABCFamily's 25 Days of Christmas. I don't know why they skip this wonderful show in favor of things like Harry Potter (how are Harry Potter movies Christmas-y???).
10. I have listened to no radio stations except those that are playing continual Christmas music since the weekend before Thanksgiving. And I'm sad that this will be the last week of it. I'm not ready for it to be over!
