A Tale of Two Pumpkin Patches - Part 2
Last Sunday, we made our way to a pumpkin patch of a completely different sort! We met up with the Woltil Family at Mr. Bones Pumpkin Patch, which lies on the border of West Hollywood and Beverly Hills.
The first thing you need to know about this place, for those of you from Tennessee, is that it isn't a patch. No pumpkins are grown in Hollywood. They would have cost us $5,672 each if they were, and we would have had equity in them. They're probably grown in Coalinga and trucked in. Anyway, the pumpkin are sitting in nice little rows and piles for you. You don't think they have fields behind that Beverly Hills sign above, right?
The second thing you need to know about it is that, only in the Los Angeles area will you find a pumpkin patch with an area set aside for the paparazzi.
Mr. Bones is a pretty famous place for star-gazing apparently! Check this out in People! While we were there, one of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills families was there.
I don't know if the press realized it or not, but the real stars of Mr. Bones were Rebecca, Lucas, and Adelaide! These kids are just the cutest ones ever!
They also had a petting zoo, and Rebecca and Addie enjoyed getting to feed some little goats. The face painting booth at Mr. Bones was also quite an improvement over the one last pumpkin patch experience. This time, Rebecca got a spider in a web. You know, because she's SPIDERGIRL, re-nem-ber?
Rebecca wanted to be sure everyone would notice that her spider and web were "sparkle-nee," which is befitting for a spidergirl princess!
I was surprised that Rebecca wanted to go down the big bouncy slide thing. She was very excited as we were paying her tickets and bounded inside. She made it about halfway up the stairs...and then she started coming back down!
Luckily, Daddy was willing to accompany her. He's such a good sport. And he even in dressed in orange for the pumpkin outing! (I feel confident this was not intentional).
Unfortunately, this woman was more interested in retrieving her kid than in letting me get the perfect shot of Rebecca coming down the slide. Rebecca's so light that she bounced up and then landed on her face, and that pretty much sealed the deal that there wasn't going to be a repeat performance!
The kids loved playing inside the pumpkin house. Even Lucas got in on this action!
I'm not sure what Julie was laughing so hard at, but it must have been hilarious! I love this pic of Julie beside our girls inside a larger than life pumpkin.
Rebecca's most favorite part of Mr. Bones was the hay maze. She was hesitant at first, but then she didn't want to get out.
She started by showing a little entrepreneurial spirit and attempting to charge admission.
Then they were off!
Addie was a little more cautious about it, but I think Rebecca convinced her it was safe.
When it was time to go, I had to send Ramy in after her, but he's not nearly as fast as she is!
We finally got the kids out of the hay and we were ready to "pick" (i.e., pick out) our pumpkins. Rebecca was really more interested in getting some more "baby punkins." She decided on these two, which she (quite creatively) named Orangey and Whitey.

A Tale of Two Pumpkin Patches - Part 1
While we were in Tennessee recently, we went to the Tate Farms pumpkin patch in Meridianville. Rebecca had a blast! We had been to the same pumpkin patch two years ago when we visted TN in October.
What a difference two years makes!
It was a fun pumpkin patch, and other than being windy, we had a perfect day!
The corn crib was one of her favorite activities.
There was a petting zoo too. However, Rebecca was only interested in the bunnies.
No southern farm is complete without a a tractor and horses!
She made a lot of friends at the pumpkin patch. I wonder if I should be concerned that she had boys flocking to her.
Hey, does that shot of Rebecca driving that green car with a little boy beside her look familiar? Check out two years ago!
After a little snack...
...it was on to the pumpkin house...
...and then to the corn train.
After all that, it was finally time to get on the hay wagon and head out to the field to find our perfect pumpkin. We tried to impress upon Rebecca that the perfect pumpkin would be near the hay wagon and not very heavy.
This was Rebecca's face when she saw the miles of pumpkins!
By the way, the face painting that Rebecca got was supposed to be a small pumpkin. The face painting artist was, well, not an artist. Then Rebecca decided she wanted a pink pumpkin. So that's what the weird thing on her face is.
Already trying to locate THE pumpkin, before we even got off the hay wagon.
Finally, it was hers, and she was determined to carry it herself, along with two "nittle baby punkins." Thankfully, I was able to convince Rebecca that we could leave them at Grammy's for her to enjoy.
It was a great day!

Rebecca-isms
Some recent things Rebecca has said that have made us laugh.
On Monday, we were getting the day started with breakfast and getting dressed and ready for the day. Rebecca asked, out of nowhere, "wonder what Jesus is doing right now." I said, "I don't know. What do you think Jesus is doing this morning?" Rebecca tapped her finger to her chin and paused before saying, "well, I thin He is eating breakfast." so I asked, "what does Jesus eat for breakfast." quickly, she responded, "Well, He probably eats stuff like eggs and yogurt...but I like pancakes!"
Grammy told me to tell Rebecca that Shakespeare had been getting into her button jar and turning it over. Then Grammy would have to pick the buttons up and put them back. He had done it a couple of times, seemingly on purpose. I related this story to Rebecca and said, "Can you believe Shakespeare did that?" She laughed and slapped her hands on her knee. Then she looked at me incredulously and put her hands out in a questioning way and said, "Well, he can't pick it up! He's a dog! He don't have hands!" Clearly, she thought the only logical thing was for Grammy to continue picking up the buttons after Shakespeare spills them.
Speaking of dogs, when Rebecca decides that a dog is favored, it can do no wrong. Clearly, Shakespeare falls into this category. At our house, it is Sydney who is her beloved dog. She loves Paddington too, but Paddy has a body odor problem that makes him socially awkward. Furthermore, he has a tendency to steal food. Thus, Rebecca is more skeptical of Paddington's motives. Sydney also adores Rebecca. If Rebecca gets put in time out, Sydney goes and stands next to her and looks at me defiantly. (I always picture Sydney giving me the bird with her paw). Paddington and Sydney can both do something they shouldn't. However, Rebecca will blame Paddington for being a bad dog, whereas she will find a way to explain away Sydney's bad behavior. While we were in Tennessee, Sydney killed two rats outside and deposited them on our downstairs tile floor for Ramy. When I told Rebecca about it, I said, "Can you believe Sydney did that?" Rebecca smiled sweetly and said, "I think it's because she misses me!"
On Sunday, Rebecca asked me in the car, "How does God paint the sky?". Trying to think quickly, I said, "Oh, I think God has a huge paintbrush." Rebecca looked a little skeptical and said knowingly, "well, if He drops it, it's going to hit somebody."
Rebecca is obsessed with Spiderman. See here. Ramy is her Spiderman. She is Spidergirl. However, she decided that I was Iron Woman. I assumed this was because Iron Man ("Spiderman's fray-und") was married to Iron Woman and thus a justified superhero for me. Because I fancied myself to be Wonder Woman, I suggested maybe that Wonder Woman could be my super alter-ego. Rebecca said, "No, you're Iron Woman! You iron the clothes!"
One day, Rebecca had a touch of either a cold or allergies and had coughed probably a dozen times. I commented about her cough. She heaved a big sigh and said, "Well, I think it's because I've been eating too much coffee ice cream with Daddy."
The sweetest thing came on Tuesday when I said prayers with Rebecca. She said, "I talk to Jesus at night. Then he gives me a hug in my heart!"

Friends
It's so nice having the Woltils back in California. We've resumed our weekly lunch/shopping/cookies dates with them. Rebecca and Addie adore each other, which is just so incredibly cute to see. Lucas looks on as if he is studying the curious ways of the female species, smiling and laughing and observing. Rebecca loves Lucas too - she thinks he is a "vewy cute nittle baby boy" and likes to touch his feet.
These pics were taken a few weeks ago, when we were having in October the summer that we missed in July! We had met at Brea Mall, and our girls greeted and parted with lots of hugs and giggles.
