Potty Time

It seems as though we're embarking on a new journey here in the Cisneros household. For a few days, Rebecca would announce to us when she had a dirty diaper. On Monday, however, she announced this information before she actually went, so I asked her if she wanted to go on the potty like a big girl. Well, we didn't make it there for the deed in question, but after we got her diaper off and she sat on the potty, there was success. Of course, this elicited much praise from me, and we had to call Daddy at work to tell him and Grammy in Tennessee to tell her. I still kind of thought it might be a fluke, but I told her that when she needed to pee-pee, she should tell me and she could go on the potty and wouldn't need a diaper. I set the timer for 20 minutes to check back with her, but just before it went off, she announced she needed to potty. So we ran in to the bathroom.

For some reason, she believed she needed to be completely naked to get the job accomplished, so I stripped her down and sat her on the potty. She promptly told me to sit down, so I sat on the floor and we waited a bit. Then she asked for a magazine, so I gave her a copy of my Redbook, and she looked at the pictures of all the advertisements...

Thinking we might be awhile, I got up to get something, and she told me to sit back down (while still reading the magazine)...

She looked a little pained...

Then, she heaved a big sigh, and we heard a tinkle in the potty. She was so proud of herself and started shrieking, "I pee pee! I pee pee!"

In all, she went four times on the potty on Monday. We rushed out and bought some big girl Dora panties, which have to be altered in order to fit my tiny little girl (they don't expect that children wearing 6-12 month sizes will be potty training!). We're taking it slow and following her lead, but it seems as though we're off to a good start!
