"You want an apple?"

I think Elmo Live is almost too real. His speech is really clear, and he'll interrupt what he is saying based on what response he gets. For example, if he's dancing and you knock him over, he will interrupt his song to ask you to help him up. If you do, he'll say thank you and then go back to singing and dancing. The realistic quality of toys these days certainly blurs the line between fantasy and reality!

Here's a little interaction I witnessed:

Rebecca was playing with Elmo Live.

Then she decided she needed a snack. "Mama, ap-ple?" Apples are a favorite snack for Rebecca, and she really likes it if she has a baggie and can get her slices out for herself.

Eventually, she settled down on the couch with her baggie of apples, and Elmo was hanging out with her. They were watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse while Rebecca was munching on her apples.

Then she thought, "Hey, I bet Elmo would like this apple!" So she turned to Elmo and said, "Elmo eat apple?" So she offered him a bite of her apple.

Surprisingly, Elmo wasn't interested in eating an apple. Puzzled, because apples are obviously a delicious treat and Elmo shouldn't miss out, Rebecca waved the apple in Elmo's face and exclaimed (a little more loudly and emphatically), "Elmo, apple!"

When Elmo still didn't seem to want to accept her offer of the apple, Rebecca took matters into her own hands and crammed the apple in Elmo's mouth.

Now thoroughly convinced that Elmo is clearly not as intelligent as she had previously thought, because heis just sitting there with the apple in his mouth, Rebecca tries to demonstrate to Elmo how to chew the apple.

That Elmo is still just not getting it, so Rebecca took it upon herself to mechanically manipulate his jaws to get Elmo to chew the apple.

Well, you can give an Elmo an apple, but you can't make him eat it! Obviously, Elmo doesn't appreciate apples. What can you do? Bemused, Rebecca settles back and focuses on Mickey Mouse, enjoying her apples.
