1. We arrived safely back in L.A. on Wednesday afternoon. Ramy picked us up at LAX and took us out for Italian for my birthday dinner. (I'll do a separate post on my b'day sometime this week).
2. Rebecca got much sicker on Wednesday night. I had given her the Dimetapp PM, which was practically like water. Between 10:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m., she coughed every single breath and she was burning up with fever. I spent a long time on the internet figuring out the half-life of Dimetapp PM's ingredients and when I could give her the regular Dimetapp. She stopped coughing her head off sometime around 2:20 a.m. Ramy took her to the pediatrician on Thursday, and she had a secondary bacterial infection on top of the virus she'd had. They dosed her up with an antibiotic, Zyrtec, and Codeine.
3. A 4-year old is pretty funny when she is stoned on Codeine. She slept most all day on Friday. By Saturday, she was good as new. She's still on the antibiotic, but she hasn't had the cough medicine in a couple of days now. She coughs just a bit and starts a coughing spell only when she starts running around or singing like crazy.
4. Rebecca is saving up lots of money for her new American Girl doll! In the last couple of weeks, she has earned $10 for helping us make our bed. She earned $12 from Grammy for helping her plant flowers. She earned $4 from me for helping me pack for our trip. Rebecca keeps her earnings in a little drawer and takes them out and counts her dollars.
5. My new phone gives me a list of people I talk to the most. #1 on my "favorites" list - our realtor. In the last month, apparently she is the person I've gotten the most phone calls from. How is this possible?
6. Today at work, I had the awesome experience of seeing a client come back a year after discharging from TLC. He wasn't ever my patient (I wasn't working for Casa Colina while he was here), but it was nonetheless exhilarating to see him and hear his story. He drove up with his wife, jumped out of his car, and ran across the front lawn to greet his physical therapist who happened to be walking outside. She had helped him take his first steps after his brain injury on that same front lawn, in front of the very same classroom where my neuropsychologist colleague had worked with him and his wife on ways to manage his impulsivity so he could successfully manage family life. There were nurse techs running out to give hugs and speech therapists conversing with him and praising his excellent articulation. He came to speak at our support group, and it was so powerful for several of our clients that big construction worker guys had tears.
7. A client spit on me today. I then had a long talk with his mother about how long he needed for bowel care to be scheduled in their daily post-discharge routine. Yep, definitely not all glamorous in my world.
8. Fortunately, there are enough of the #6s to make up for the #7s.
9. I'm having a hard time getting into The Bachelorette this season. I missed the first episode, but thankfully Julie brought me up to speed. I saw last night's episode, and I'm just not feeling the love. Luckily, the Real Housewives of New Jersey has plenty of ridiculous drama to keep me hooked.
10. I spent a little too much time on Pottery Barn's website this weekend, to the extent that I ended up looking up discontinued quilt patterns on Ebay, and then looking at a message board devoted to the store to try to figure out what a particular pattern is. YIKES!
